Saddle Selection & Adjustment

How do I decide which Brooks saddle is best for me?

There are a number of points to consider, one of which is, of course, personal preference. Wider saddles are better suited to a more upright sitting position; narrower saddles to a more forward leaning position. Rear springs provide added comfort on narrower models and are necessary for those riding in a more upright position as they absorb shocks from the road otherwise inflicted upon the spine. Titanium frames, not only offer weight reduction, but also a superior shock absorbency over steel frames. The advantage with a leather saddle is that it moulds to suit the individual anatomy of its rider and becomes personal to that rider while the natural movement of the leather functions like a hammock that allows for a fluid movement between rider and machine.  On many of our product pages, and included in our Cinema, is a video which will help make explanation of which is a suitable saddle.  Alternately you can find the video here

How do I break in my saddle?

The best way to break in your new saddle is to ride it frequently. Like a new pair of quality leather boots, a leather saddle may be uncomfortable for some at the outset; but like a good pair of boots, once broken in, they will, with proper care, provide the owner with decades of use.

Will a Brooks saddle fit onto my bicycle?

The majority of brooks saddles have a single rail structure, which means that they should fit easily onto the modern micro-adjust seat pillars where the Clamp and the pillar are made in one integral piece; All saddles within the Classical, Special, Select, Imperial and Aged family lines have a single rail. With the exception of the B15 Swallow, the models within the Unique family line are different. These saddles have either a double or a triple rail construction. Brooks supply these models with the appropriate clamp already factory fitted. This clamp should be employed and is designed to fit onto a standard 22mm diameter straight seat post.

Mixed Questions

Do Brooks give organised factory tours?

Officially, Brooks do not offer factory tours to the general public. Special requests are occasionally granted as an exception to this rule.

Marketing, merchandising and POS materials are generally issued only to dealers, distributors and retail outlets of the Brooks brand.

Where can I download high resolution pictures of Brooks products?

You will find some product pictures on our website at www.brooksengland.com/press

How can I stop the colour dye from staining my trousers?

Brooks uses only natural vegetable-based dyes to achieve the colours of their leather products. These dyes will sometimes ‘bleed’ out during riding usage. This bleeding is more likely to occur when the saddle is new but, over a short period of time, the amount of bleeding will gradually reduce and should soon stop all together. Brooks advise the wearing of dark trousers, or shorts, during these initial rides. If the leather becomes wet, then bleeding may re-commence for a short while, this can also be true after Proofide has been applied.
