Give it time…
A thing of utmost quality.

The B17 Utmost was more than a hundred years in the making. Kings, queens, even countries have come and gone while the B17 proudly soldiered on.
To attempt to improve it was no whim. For starters, the B17 was always an excellent saddle. We had no intention of tinkering with a beloved formula simply for the sake of it.
No, if we were to do this, we would do it right.
Back and forth to the tanneries we went: poring over details, testing, discarding and beginning again. We arrived at the finest leather we’ve ever secured. Supple without weakness, resilient without rigidity, and destined to age with grace. It is minimally dyed to preserve its inherent beauty.
The rails are tubular stainless steel. The tension pin, oft-overlooked, has been completely redesigned.
To purchase a B17 Utmost is to make a commitment: I will ride this saddle for miles, it will be with me many years, the bond will only mature with every passing pedal stroke.

Give it time, and it will return the investment tenfold.

With the B17 Utmost it was ever our intention to do things differently. We examined every element of the product and rebuilt accordingly. For the metal frame of the saddle, we replaced the rails with AISI 304 tubular stainless steel. This made them both lighter and stronger than conventional steel; only the titanium model of the B17 can boast lighter rails. The straight part of the frame is one-and-a-half centimetres longer, providing more space for attachment and greater choice in how you mount the Utmost to your bike. This strong foundation is the secret to many years of enjoyment, and is part of the reason why, if you give it time, the B17 Utmost will reward you many times over.
A story for the ages

A story for the ages

Premium leather such as this develops a unique patina over time, so the longer you own it and the more you use it, the more your Utmost will change and mature. Every well-travelled Brooks leather saddle has its own tale to tell – one written by you and your adventures. And in some cases, with a chapter or two penned by the person who owned it before you. Time also played a part in the creation of the Utmost. The B17 has been in production for more than a century; there was no great rush to improve upon it. Great momentous shifts have occurred in that period. We went to the moon, entire countries have faded out of existence, the mobile telephone was invented (for good, or ill). Through it all, the B17 remained unchanged. It was only when we had something truly special that we released the Utmost to the world.
Stout, stiff, superlative.

Stout, stiff, superlative.

The B17 Utmost is made with the finest leather we’ve ever secured. The process was painstaking. We went back and forth to the tanneries, poring over details, inspecting for flaws and foibles. The leather we arrived at was well worth the wait. With a thickness of 5.5 millimetres, it is stout and stiff in the beginning but will mature when given time into one of the most comfortable seats you will ever sit on. For those that wish to speeden the break-in process, a bottle of softener is included with the purchase. This solution can be applied in moderation to the under side of the saddle with either a brush or sponge. Do not use it all at once. Tread lightly. Leave a minimum of a couple of hours before riding. The leather is vegetable-tanned and left undyed, preserving the beautiful natural colour of the material.
Building tension…

Building tension…

The tensioning system of the B17 Utmost is a step forward in both quality and precision. The entire nose of the saddle has been redesigned, with the tension pin itself reshaped to improve resilience. The head of the tension pin is formed in an hourglass or figure of eight shape, which prevents unwanted rotations of the pin that might otherwise lead to slackening of your saddle’s leather top if not properly tensioned. An elastic ring has also been introduced to prevent the tension pin from slipping out of the nosepiece. These small and largely-unseen details guarantee a more robust lifespan for your saddle, and greater confidence in tuning your seat just-so.
