Made in England

The B15 Swallow is a faithful reproduction of a saddle specifically conceived with the sporting cyclist in mind, the result being a timeless design widely regarded as the precursor of all modern racing saddles. This saddle was originally patented as long ago as 1937. At that time a great many such Brooks Saddles were exported to the continent, where they were very popular amongst professional cyclists competing in the various tours and stage races. Today's Swallow still proudly bears the original patent declaration on the tensioning plate beneath the svelte leather upper. This text retains the word “deposé” the patent application for the Swallow having initially been registered in the Paris patent office. The timeless design of the Swallow remains virtually unchanged today.

After months of careful deliberation I finally decided to take the plunge and buy a Brooks Swallow for my upcoming Lands End to John O'Groats ride. Why didn't I do it sooner? After around 250-300 miles the out of the box comfort has only increased as both the saddle and my rear have become the best of friends! I never thought I could ever achieve 'arm chair' comfort on a saddle, how wrong I was! I shall be buying more Brooks saddles in the future for all bikes yet to be bought!

I got this saddle on a Cooper Seabrooke I bought over 2 years ago, and have done over 6.000km on it. I have adjusted it once to keep it tight. I am not sure about breaking it in etc. as it was really comfortable from new, although most rides on this seat are about 1-1.5 hours. I have done a 12 hour day on it when I road Around the bay in a day evednt as support to some inexperienced riders and it isn't any different to a 1 hour ride. It fits nice and is as good as my other modern saddles on my road and MTB bikes. For a bike that will look better with a leather saddle, don't hesitate, buy one.

COMMENT > Your description contains the following sentence:

"The tensioning plate on the underside still bares [sic] the original patenting information retaining the word DEPOSÉ, as the patent for this model was first registered in Paris."

My understanding is that, under the Queen's English, the correct spelling is "bears."

Otherwise, great saddle, and congratulations on the revised website.

Hello Brooks,

Due to surgery 14 years ago I have issues finding a good saddle (even a good chair can be difficult). I bought this saddle 2 weeks ago, to fit on my new dark-blue Jaegher bike. At the start, I went for short rides and massaged my saddle a bit, however, the first 200 km I did not like it a bit... After that, the saddle got softer, I found the good position on the bike, and now I could not whish for a better saddle . It looks great, especially with the matching leather bar tape, and I have never been more comfortable!

I suppose next buy will be a Brooks tool bag to match the saddle.

Kind regards

Arvid

I bought the BROOKS Swallow Chrome Unique (B15) saddle for my Cannondale road bike. This saddle (~490 grams) replaces a Fisik Arione Ti saddle (~225 grams) which replaced an Italia Flite TT with titanium rails (~165 grams).

My initial impressions after my first outing (~70 km) follow. This is a great saddle! I wish that I had bought it along time ago. One will IMO pedal faster and longer with a saddle that is comfortable even if it weights more.

Other thoughts: Your mileage may vary but I feel that I am pedaling stronger and faster with this saddle than I was 3 or 4 years ago. That's a feeling that I like!
A> Great!  We are under the belief here that as you age you get faster! :)

Just mounted my swallow and I notice that the flex under the weight of my hand (pushing) is dramatic (1/4 to 1/2 inch of flex at mid saddle). I haven't applied the proofide as of yet. How much flex should I expect?
The Swallow is the most flexible of all our saddle models, the flex you are seeing is normal.

Brooks,

Last Thursday I had my beloved Brooks saddle stolen off my bike on the Southbank in London.

Though I know this crime wasn't your fault (obviously), I was wondering - as there is a black market in Brooks saddles - whether there was anything you could do to make it harder for these to be stolen. For example, issuing numbers on them and assigning them to people who buy them in order to assist the police and for others who buy 'second-hand' Brooks saddles off Ebay, Gumtree and markets such as the one on Brick Lane, to be able to know where their saddle has come from??

I feel this would enable you to increase your sales perhaps, and will ensure prospective buyers that you are thinking and acknowledging that this is happening with your product. Although I ordered a saddle for my boyfriend (before the theft), I feel this lack of care and security has meant I will not be buying another for myself if it's going to happen again.

I'd appreciate some feedback on the matter,

Sheena Patel

We also highly recommend carving one's name into the saddle top.  This can be done artfully or otherwise.

Wonderful saddle and compliment my 29er Retrotec Twin. looks classic.

qns. i never adjured the tension from the day i bought it, 1yr on. intact 2 days ago, i notice the leather sort get super loose after a long 100km ride, i tightened it via the bolt below and i need to tightened it quite a lot intact half way thru the screw length to get it tight again. so will i ran out of screw length if i ride another 1yr . i am heavy weight rider weighing 120kg. is there a weight limit?
A> we would recommend checking the tension every 3 to 6 months to keep the saddle in shape.

After many different saddles this is the perfect match for my bottom. But, unfortunately the saddle is sagging more than I would like. My 105 kg probably have something to do with it. After one year and 6000km on it I have used about 25% of the screw. If I get 5 years out of it I will be pleased enough to buy another brooks, but harder model....Swallow Select, Team Pro or B17.
