Photo courtesy of Rick from cyclesportphotos.com Sean McAdam has been in touch with us recently with photos from this year's Pendle Witches Vintage Velo ride.  The PWVV is cosy charity sportive through the Lancashire countryside that is held each year, with a hot homemade pie and peas waiting at the finish, washed down with a few pints of real ale. Registration for 2013 has already opened. We let Sean from Pendle take up the story... Now in its fourth year, the Pendle Witches Vintage Velo is firmly placed in the UK ‘s Sportive Calendar. We like to think of it as a mini l’Eroica and try to get as many Vintage And Classic bikes up to the early Nineties on board. By way of enticement, you get a ten minute head start if your frame is over twenty years old. But modern machines are also welcome. We also think this could be the most concentrated collection of Backsides on Brooks saddles in the North. Free pie and peas at the finish to all riders and a cycle related raffle, with prizes going to the most original cycle and best period dressed rider. Photo courtesy of Rick from cyclesportphotos.com It has two routes - a tough 54 mile loop called "The Trial" through Lancashire, Ribble Valley and the Trough of Bowland taking in the climbs Nick O' Pendle and Waddington Fell to name two. There is also a shorter 13 mile run we name "The Cauldron", a challenging little circular route. Photo courtesy of Rick from cyclesportphotos.com All money raised goes to Stepping Stones, a local children's hospice, and with a limit of 200 riders and a ‘CULT’ following it fills up pretty quick, so dust down the old steel, grab the wool and acrylic and check out the web site at http://www.pendlewitchesvintagevelo.co.uk/
