The Brompton World Championships 2014
Brooks England had the pleasure of sponsoring this year's Brompton World Championships.  The 2014 edition of the race took place at Goodwood in West Sussex on Sunday 27th July.  As always there was an eclectic selection of outfits and customised Bromptons, many of course equipped with Brooks saddles and accessories. [caption id="attachment_13165" align="alignnone" width="640" caption="The new lids"][/caption] We also used the event to mark the release of our new helmet collaboration with Carrera. The collaboration has created a number of exclusive colour ways, each of which has Brooks Leather features and includes a Brooks Leather Carrying Strap that can double as a trouser strap.  The helmets themselves caused quite a stir on the day as many Brompton enthusiasts dropped by to ask us about them. [caption id="attachment_13162" align="alignnone" width="640" caption="The peloton keeping a pace"][/caption] The day itself consisted of a series of different races, including a sprint, but there was no doubt in anyone's mind about the main event.  The Championship race had over 700 competitors from all over the world, with the mass start having to be scheduled into waves to ensure safe entry for all competitors on to the circuit. [caption id="attachment_13168" align="alignnone" width="640" caption="The machines ready to rise"][/caption] Thankfully it was a safe start and everyone entered the circuit safely for their 4 laps of pain.  There were prizes on offer beyond the Championship, the riders were competing to be best dressed, best team and many other awards.  There really was something for everyone. [caption id="attachment_13170" align="alignnone" width="640" caption="The cavalry "][/caption] There were some truly fantastic outfits on display, with riders dressed in their finest military regalia, to one man dressed up as Tiger from Whiney the Pooh.  He must have been a little warm as the temperatures were well into the high twenties. [caption id="attachment_13166" align="alignnone" width="640" caption="Tiger could not quite spring himself onto the podium"][/caption] Our biggest regret of the day was not having our B1866 trade team on parade.  Following our ride at L'Eroica Britannia, we are confident we would have been able to scoop the team prize, although seeing as the prize was our iconic Barbican bag it was nice to let some other people in for the win.  That being said there was something shady about Team Brompton claiming first place!
