L'Eroica 2013

L'Eroica 2013
Another L'Eroica has come and gone, and as usual it was filled with its share of special moments for those who made the pilgrimage to Chianti. Special moments made unusually dear, courtesy of torrential rain that bore down on the 5500 participants for the entire 24 hours before the start. A tragedy for vendors and visitors alike, cruelly robbed of the usual bucolic Saturday of browsing, lazing, blabbing and haggling. For many this is their only cycling holiday of the year, some of us at Brooks included, so it really is a pity when the weather refuses to cooperate. However, as far as we could see, this didn't dampen anyone's spirits, and folks tucked away into every available corner to patiently wait out the worst of what Mother Nature had to offer: either listening to guests and lectures in the new visitors center, crouching beneath tarps searching for emergency parts at the jumble, or staking a claim at one of the many small cafes to be found in the nooks and crannies of Gaiole - eating and drinking the afternoon down. This year we were also treated to the news announced at the event that the L'Eroica is coming to the UK in 2014!  More about that soon, but pre-registration is to be found at www.eroicabrittania.co.uk. Thankfully Sunday proved to be perhaps the best weather on record, and for that I'm sure we can all suffer the memory of that sodden Saturday. This year the Brooks team was bolstered to record numbers, thanks to the amazing efforts of some of our Dealers of Excellence, who made the trip from as far away as Montreal and Japan to take part in what is for many a once in a lifetime event.  Rounding our the group were select journalists, who came to report on what still is one of the least- known cylcing events in the world. As usual, we rode the 75km course, that we may all easily keep together and enjoy plenty of stops along the way.  But which also features a staggering 2300 meters of climbing, for anyone accusing us of taking it easy. There were just too many to name names, and to name drop is just tacky. So, to all of you who we passed along the way, thank you for making this one of the greatest events yet.  We look forward to seeing you again, or meeting you for the first time, in 2014. Enjoy the rest of the pics here and on our Facebook Page and do try and make it to one of the "Brooks-approved" retro events to be held in 2014, conveniently displayed on the Brooks Calendar. - The Brooks Team Photo courtesy Roel Van Schalen   Dario Pegoretti's Team, clothed by PEdALED   Eddy?
