Readers' Rides from Brooks Stories - No.1 - The Tweed GigoloCorrespondence Friends Saddles, Bags, Etc. Style & Fashion Bicycles Art & Design Stories
In a new series, at Brooks we've decided to wade back through our online archives in search of stories from proud Brooks customers about their bicycles. We like to call this Readers' Rides. Here is the first beauty to be selected from the vaults.
Starting out life in the 1960’s as a hand built frame by James Fothergill Cycles of Liverpool, the Tweed Gigolo is a bicycle owned by Mr Peter Legg.
He gave the original frame a bespoke revamp to provide him with a ride to participate in the 2012 London Tweed Run. The build went on a 'Path Racer' theme with a modern mix of retro components, including a Sturmey Archer 5 speed hub gear to create a cleaner look.
Continuing along the lines of all of Peter’s other bike builds, it had to have a Brooks Saddle (a Brooks Swift in this case) with matching bar tape which complements the beautiful hand cut chrome plated lugs. The classic lines and period colour scheme together go to show what you can achieve with an old frame and some stylish new components.
