I bought a black Brooks B72 saddle last year. This is a great saddle and I never really experienced the "break-in" like some other people. It has been comfortable from the first day despite my heavy weight ( I weighed ~360 lbs when I bought it, and I weigh about 340 lbs now). If you are thinking about getting this model, just get it. It is the perfect saddle for the money. You won't be dissapointed.
Approximately 14 months ago I purchased a B72 saddle for my bicycle from Howes Cycles in Cambridge. I commute to work on my bike, and wanted something that was lightweight, yet sturdy, supportive and cushioned. I have been very happy with the performance of your product. However, when I was riding home about 6 weeks ago, both springs on one side of the saddle gave way. Realising that Brooks has a reputation for standing by their workmanship, I returned it to Howes for repair. Unfortunately, I lost my receipt in a recent move of house and had nothing to prove the date of purchase. Howes phoned the Brooks sales representative, who instructed me to leave the saddle for him to examine. Yesterday, Howes rang to inform me that the saddle had been repaired free of charge. Sure enough, when I collected it I found my saddle had been repaired with impeccable workmanship and attention to detail, complete with a brand new undercarriage. As a businessman myself, I truly appreciate this level of customer service; you have certainly won over a customer for life. Thank you again, and my regards to your workshop. Kind regards, Ian Coveny
COMMENT > Hello and greetings from Los Angeles, First I would like to thank you for making such an great product. I have had my B72 for many years and it has served me well. Unfortunately, time has not been kind to my frame and it recently fractured. It could be the salt air, or it could be my 100 kg body. My friend told me that I could buy a replacement frame and rivets on your website. This made me very happy. (It's kind of like my Grandfather's axe - he had the same one for fifty years - he replaced the head three times and the handle four, still the same axe he would say) I digress. Can you imagine the horror when I went to your website (love that 2006 ad with the gal!) and found that the only frame you sell is for the wee little seats? The rivets are not even available. I know you have these things kicking around, because that's how you build the world's greatest saddle. I need help and hopefully you can give me some. Thank you for your time Billy PS You crazy folks will probably be getting ready to celebrate Cinco de Mayo out there ( Tortilla Chips and Mexican Beer -maybe a Piña Colada)
REPLY > The spare parts are available from local shops through our distributors, Soon we will also make them available online.
Hi, I was always very content with my Brooks which I bought from a friend about ten Years ago until this morning on my way to work through a snowstorm the Metal under the leather cover broke. Can you repair it?
answer - All Brooks saddles may be repaired, please visit the Getting in Touch section of this website!
Q > I recently bought a Pilen Swedish Classic bike. It rolls silently and like a dream, however, the B66 saddle makes a lot of noise during riding, probably coming from the springs and suspension. Is this normal and acceptable?
A > Some squeaking can happen. It is normally due to the rubbing between the leather top and the metal parts, either on the nose or on the back plate. Try to put some Proofide where you believe the squeaking is coming from.
Spanning more than a century of history we have preserved some models which are unique in their construction. Each saddle in this range needs a different workmanship or frame construction which is specific to that particular model, making it Unique. Most of the models have a double or triple rail construction, like the B66, our most popular model in the Brooks Unique range, dating back as early as 1927. The Swallow has single rails, but a very peculiar construction of the leather top.
