Last summer I was part of a group of 25 students who crossed the country and raised awareness and funds for cancer. 4000 miles in 63 days. Before the trip started everyone was raising money, as was I. I am proud to say not only did I raise $4,500, I bought a brooks saddle. The first few days we went through the Appalachian Mountains, the only part of me that didn't hurt was the part sitting on my saddle. When we had the epic 300 miles in three day stints I knew that while everyone's saddle was becoming more compressed, mine was becoming more comfortable. Trust me, I didn't keep the knowledge secret and every time someone complained I told them of the unfaltering comfort that is my brooks seat, by the end of the trip i had converted almost everyone the the "brooks religion" and there were no decanters. It sound a bit manic but it was one of my most important possessions as we humped it up Estes park in the Rocky Mountains and then sat back for the 40 mile decent. There were days that the landscape seemed endless, or when the mountain seemed endless. As it turned out the Rockeys were not the biggest challenge but one Escalante mountain range in Utah. 30 miles of ascending through out the day! All in all it was the trip of a life time, Baltimore MD to San Fransisco CA, for some taxing and painful but for me, from with the brooks saddle on my side, it was a dream!
