The new Leather Barbican is manufactured in England using the same hardwearing leather used for Brooks Saddles. The Barbican was first developed and is still available in cotton with leather details. Both versions of the bag feature an adjustable shoulder strap that can be easily secured around the waist. The strap can be worn loose to carry the bag over the shoulder while walking. Then, for increased comfort while riding, the two ends of the strap can be pulled together around the waist and fixed as a ‘Sam Brown’ belt.

I recently purchased this bag and absolutely love it. I am concerned about the care of the bag... Is there anything particular I need to do in order to protect it from the elements or can I just begin to use without worry? Thanks!

I purchased one of these bags a couple of months ago. I live and work within Cambridge, and often find myself having to cycle across the city for meetings, and turning up with my scruffy panniers didn't necessarily look the part. What can I say, it is one of the finest pieces of craftsmanship I have ever purchased. It looks and feels terrific out of the box, and even within a couple of months it is beginning to 'break-in' which will only give it more character! It is also very easy to use and comfortable to cycle with. It isn't cheap, but it is fantastic and beautiful - buy one now!

I just bought the brown Barbican, it really is a beautiful bag, the quality of leather, stitching and construction is fantastic. the straps are comfortable and work very well to secure while riding. The best thing about the purchase is knowing that I'll have it for many many years and it'll only get better with age, i do look forward to it softening up a bit. another great product Brooks! thank you!
I have been complaining for several months that there is not a functional yet professional messenger bag. I thought I would have to make one myself. Someone told me to check out your website, so I did. The Barbican bag is perfect! It is better then I could have ever imagined. I will be a lawyer in a few years and it is the only bag that I can imagine using to commute while still looking professional. I am absolutely enamored with the bag and everything your company makes. I can't afford the bag now but as soon as I can I will most certainly be purchasing one. Keep up the amazing work.

Before blindly buying one of these dandy bags online I have one remaining question. As I am a fiery enemy both of belt straps and long strap-ends dangling at the side of the messenger bag – is it possible to either remove the belt strap or at least hide the thing inside the barbican? A> Hi Christian, This bag does not have a "belt strap" per say. When the bag is adjusted properly, and worn only upon the shoulder (i.e., when the belt function is not in use) the small amount of excess strap is hardly noticeable and does not extend beneath the bottom of the bag.

i was wondering what the layout inside the bag is, is it similar to the other Barbican bags, or is it just one large space? i was also wondering how much weight is the suggested max.
A> The bag contains one large compartment with a removable insert for carrying small items. This bag is very sturdy and will accommodate any reasonable amount of weight you can fit inside.
I am thinking about purchasing this bag but I would really like to know how much stuff the 13 litre capacity can handle. Especially considering that initially there will be not much give.
A: Its a fairly well-sized bag, you could hold a large laptop with assorted accessories and a wool sweater no problem.
The bag looks very elegant and is beautifully made. However, the design is cumbersome and insufficient. There is no interior lining, the meager pouch detaches itself very easily, the hard leather shoulder strap cuts into you and the bags contents are very much exposed to the weather.
